Please Read All Guidelines Before Submitting
When submissions reach the monthly limit allowed by our Submittable subscription, all genres will automatically close. Genres will reopen on the first day of the following month.
Nancy Jensen, Editor
The Chaffin Journal is an annual print journal. We seek diverse and original poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction rooted in literary tradition. We value assured voices, freshness of vision, precision of language, and a sense of urgency in all the work we publish. Simultaneous submissions will be considered, provided you withdraw from consideration any work accepted elsewhere. No previously published work will be considered. We define previously published work as a piece published in another journal (paper or electronic), in a book or chapbook (traditionally or self-published), or one that is currently online in a public blog or within a public forum.
Submissions are accepted annually (dates to be added).
PLEASE NOTE:
Submissions will be open (dates to be added)
- Limit: 1 submission per writer, per reading period. Additional work submitted by the same writer during the annual reading period--either in the same genre or in other genres--will be declined, unread.
- With your submission, include a brief biographical note (75 words max), written in third person, as well as a postal address. We'll need both if we accept your work.
- Include your postal address in your cover letter.
- Submissions for specific genres may be temporarily disabled due to extremely high submission rates in that genre.
*Note to Submitters: Please keep up with your Submittable account! Some writers have missed acceptances because Submittable notifications have gone to their email junk folders. Upon receipt, all submissions receive an automated response. If you don't see that in your email, check your junk or spam folder and then add the address to your whitelist or mark it "not spam." Every submission will also receive a response--either a decline or an acceptance--so, even if you miss an email notification, you'll find the response in your Submittable account.
